Sacha Bernardson, artiste polyvalent fais ses premières armes avec des pinceaux.
Il se verra très rapidement user des sons pour parvenir à peindre des paysages brumeux et des personnages aux étranges reliefs.
Ici, il est question d’attraper des bluettes statiques, de jouer de l’ordinateur, de sculpter l’électricité… on s’endort sur des ondes radiophoniques, on boit l’écho et on s’habille de chants polyphoniques.
Enlacé entre une dramaturgie pop et les craquements électroniques de la synthwave, Sacha étudie la synthèse des opposés. Après avoir façonné 7 albums à géométrie variable, le tout neuf Rockall est sorti en novembre 2017, et une édition japonaise à été publié sous le label Fennely en mars 2018.
Sacha Bernardson is a versatile artist who started express himself by drawing and writing. He will soon find himself using sounds to paint misty landscapes and characters with strange shapes.
Here we are talking about catching electric sparks, playing computer, sculpting electricity ... we fall asleep on radio waves, we drink the echo and we dress up with polyphonic choirs.
Embraced between a pop dramaturgy and the electronic crunches of tsynthwave, Sacha studies the synthesis of opposites. After editing 7 albums with variable geometry, the brand new Rockall have been release in november 2017, and a japanese edition in march 2018.
ROCKALL:
Rockall est me sommet d’un volcan subaquatique, situé au milieu de l’atlantique nord.
J’ai choisi ce nom pour tous les symboles que cette petite ile m’évoque : apatride, solitaire et aussi pour cette situation géographique dramatique.
Je voulais créer quelque chose d’exagérément excentrique, mais aussi luxuriant, sensible et électrique.
Lorsque j’ai enregistré les premières maquettes de ce projet, j’ai trouvé quelque chose de flou qui pourrait être le sujet, cet état « d’être loin ».
Je me suis imaginé assis sur ce petit rocher, entouré par les vagues et le vent, puis progressivement, les coquillages et la roche ont commencé à m’envelopper, le personnage de Rockall est né.
J’ai alors composé des paysages sonores avec des nappes de synthétiseurs et des polyphonies vocales, quelques chose d’exagérément kitsch et dramatique, comme un manga Shojo et ou film de série-b S.F.
L’album a grandi sur scène avant d’être capturé dans sa forme finale en studio, il a donc eu de nombreuses formes, j’ai eu l’impression que ça ressemblait à l’érosion, comme ces coquillages rongés par le sel et le vent et qui laissent apparaitre la nacre
Rockall is the top of a submarine volcano, situated in the middle of north atlantic, between America and Europe.
I choose this name for all the symbols this very small island inspires me: statelessness, solitary, and probably this dramatic geographic situation.
I wanted to create something exaggerated, excentric, as I can be very drama queen sometimes.
But also sensitive, lush and electric
When I started to record the first demos for this project, I found a blurry line who can be the subject :"being far"
I projected myself sitting on this small rock, surrounded by waves and winds... then progressively, the shells and rocks started to envelop me, the Rockall character was born.
I wanted to create a soundscape between synth-wave and baroque choir, something probably exaggeratedly kitsch and dramatic, like a shojo manga or a Sci-fi B movie.
Rockall starts on stage, with a 4 people choir band and my machines, so most of the album version have been experimented live. The songs took so many shapes, I have the feeling this is pretty similar than the erosion phenomena, water and wind ate the rock and made appear the mother of pearl.

Sceptre & Orb est la seule chanson de l’album qui parle au nom du personnage Rockall, donc pour la vidéo j’ai voulu proposer un plan subjectif, la créature Rockall observe ces personnes, toute comme des centres gravitationnels, portants les mêmes mots, les mêmes sentiments.
Scepter & Orb is the only song in the album that speaks on behalf of the character Rockall, so for the video I wanted to propose a subjective plan, the Rockall creature observes these people, acting like gravitational centers, bearing the same words, The same feelings.
SUR SCÈNE / ON STAGE
Il existe plusieurs versions live autour de l’album Rockall (solo / duo / avec chorale).
En Islande Sacha est accompagné par la chorale « The Mermaids » de 4 à 5 voix.
Le show s’articule autour d’arrangements vocaux et d’improvisation électro-acoustiques (machines/effets).
Pour les continents, Sacha a fait appel au musicien Benjamin Gibert afin de former un duo. Les répertoires se mélangent sous la thématique rocailleuse des volcans. Les deux univers se rencontre dans un mélange explosif, fragmenté de beats et de ligne vocales puissantes. Le spectacle devrait évoluer en intégrant différents instruments comme une basse, du mélodica ou de l’autoharpe. Il n’est pas exclu d’insérer une paire de choriste.
Le concert a pour vocation de résonner fort pour les festivals, et chuchoter l’intime dans des petites salles.
There are several live versions of the album Rockall (solo / duet/ with a choir).
In Iceland Sacha is accompanied by a choir "The Mermaids" (4 to 5 singers)
The show is articulated around vocal arrangements and improvisation with machines and effects.
For the continents, Sacha asked the musician Benjamin Gibert to form a duet. The songs are mix under the rocky theme of volcanoes. Both universes are encountered in an explosive, fragmented mix of powerful beats and vocal lines.
The show should evolve by integrating different instruments such as bass, melodica or autoharp. It is not excluded to insert a pair of singers.
The concert aims to resonate strongly for the festivals, and whisper the intimate in small venues.

BENJAMIN GIBERT:
Benjamin Gibert est compositeur, formé par l'architecture et l'écriture électro-acoustique.
Il déploie son talent dans l’univers de la danse contemporaine et du théâtre contemporain.
Il amorce sa recherche musicale pour la danse contemporaine et explore la question de la musicalité des corps avec Pierre Pontvianne (Punkt, Motifs), Olivier Gabrys (Lieux Communs) et Olivier Bioret (Hortichorégraphies). Au théâtre, il travaille avec les metteurs en scène Grégoire Blanchon (Traces, La Lune dans le Puits), Yann Métivier et Thomas Gonzales (Oxygene), Julien Rocha et Cédric Veschambres (Oliver, Des Hommes qui Tombent). Il s'aventure également dans le monde de la performance en créant une pièce musicale pour Predrag Pajdic, sur le projet The Myth of Yearning Never Ends.
En 2015 il rejoint le projet Arandel (inFiné records) comme interprète sur le live de la tournée
Solarispellis. Il est invité en Février 2017 au Liban à diriger un workshop de composition musicale
avec les élèves du Conservatoire National du Liban, à Beyrouth, pour le Mois de la Francophonie,
avec l'Institut Français. Dès lors il s'intéresse à une forme de nomadisme créatif, poussé par un désir de voyage, et de compression du studio musical dans un sac-à-dos.

Benjamin Gibert is a composer, trained in architecture and electroacoustic writing. His talent is
mostly exerted in the fields of contemporary dance and drama.
It is with Pierre Pontvianne (Punkt, Motifs), Olivier Gabrys (Lieux Communs) et Olivier Bioret
(Hortichorégraphies), that Benjamin initiated his research into contemporary dance and explores the
topic of the musicality of the bodies. For drama, Benjamin worked with various directors: Grégoire
Blanchon (Traces, La Lune dans le Puits), Yann Métivier et Thomas Gonzales (Oxygene), Julien
Rocha et Cédric Veschambres (Oliver, Des Hommes qui Tombent). Benjamin also ventured to the
world of installation performance, creating a piece of music for Predrag Pajdic, on the project
called The Myth of Yearning Never Ends.
In 2015, Benjamin joins the Arandel project (inFiné records) as a player on the Solarispellis live
tour. In February 2017, The French Institute in Beyrouth, Lebanon, invites him to lead a workshop
on music composition, with the students of the National Conservatory of Lebanon, as part of the
Mois de la Francophonie. Since then, Benjamin has been interested in creative nomadism,
transported by wanderlust, and an urge to fit a music studio into a single backpack.
